Bus-Book-Beverage – Cardiff Bus 136

This is another logistically challenging route to complete.  Most of the No.136 buses terminate at Pentyrch and only a few early evening buses go on to serve Creigiau.  If you want to get off in Creigiau, do a bit of exploring and have a beverage then you are limited to just the one option, arriving at 17.41 and departing at 19.18.

he day I happened to choose to go happened to be pretty wet and miserable so having a limited time for a walk happened to work out just fine.

The bus got to Creigiau and I stayed on whilst it did a loop of the village and hopped off outside the Creigiau Inn.

It was then up with the umbrella and off for a shortish walk along the old abandoned railway lines that used to serve the village and nearby quarry.  The railway used to go all the way down to Barry Dock at one stage. I was surprised looking at an old map how small the village was in those days, little more than a couple of streets.  Today is a sizable village for those who want to live outside the hustle and bustle of Cardiff itself.

The paths were dank and gloomy and I thought I would have them to myself but the dog walkers were out with their excited pets that have no doubt been inside all day.

It was a lot less gloomy in the Creigiau Inn where there were some good hand pump beers on offer.  My book for the trip was ‘For the Love of Radio 4’ by Pippa Greenwood and written about ten years ago.  It is/was a great radio station (discuss) and the book served to remind me the gems that can still be found there.  In fact Radio 4 did a good job of supporting me through a bout of covid/flu which I succumbed to a few days later.
